I have saved myself thousands in car repairs over the years by popping open a fuse box and replacing or reseating a fuse/fusable link. I have saved hundreds more by reseating a loose connection in the wiring, replacing a connector, tightening ground bolts and/or cleaning battery terminals.
I know there are plenty of honest shops out there who won't charge you to replace a part if they only have to replace a fuse, but there are just as many that will charge you for a part (and labor) you never needed.
It's never been easier to find fuse diagrams … check the manual in your glovebox, and there's a reason they are so easy to access.
