Anyone have a frugal fail? Or what you should NOT be as frugal with?

We buy bulk stuff which is not always bad (but really, who needs a gallon on mayo?).

Has anyone tried to be frugal about something only to have it backfire in a major way?

Interested in hearing some stories..
