I currently make 80K. I've been approached with the opportunity for a job that pays at least 105K in a different company. I have about 60K in student loan debt. However, I have two considerations:
- My current position is low stress, a good work environment (beautiful office with lots of perks), and and I'd feel really bad because my boss is on maternity leave and I'm a pretty critical part of the team.
- For almost 1.5 years I've been running my own ecommerce business on the side with the goal of leaving the corporate world. Though it's not yet profitable overall, I actually have done $300K in revenue in that time, with recent months showing decent profitability (about 10K profit a month). I'm still paying back business debt, which amounts to about 35K. There are no guarantees, as the business is dependent on certain things going right that are sometimes out of my control.
As long as I can keep the biz going well, I was planning on leaving my job within 6 months so I could finally achieve my goal of living in foreign countries and building up my business further (and perhaps starting a new one).
Technically I didn't get the job offer yet, but I'm the ideal candidate and they are being aggressive about having me (there are very few qualified people for this job in the country). I don't count chickens before they're hatched, but I feel extremely confident about my prospects.
I'm not sure if I should keep leading the other firm on. I would love to be making that salary, but I feel that there is a good chance I would leave shortly after taking it. Moreover, a sudden departure from my current job while my boss is out feels bad.
Finally, at 41 yrs old, I feel like I've been waiting a long, long time to finally start living (traveling and living overseas is a huge part of that). I'm kind of at a loss as to how to proceed...
