They concerned by the biohazard of it, like bacteria or virus that carried by previous owner. As a person who got half of my wardrobe from thrif store, I never really think about this. I explained to them that before wearing it, I soak the clothes in boiled water (and sometimes, bleach) overnight to sterilize it. Their question makes me wonder, how fellow r/frugal do with your thrift store clothing before using it? do you just dump it to the laundry?
edit: I think I should add more detail about where I'm from. I live in a country where there is no legal procedure of taking care donated/used item to resell in on thrift store. In here, we don't know where the clothes came from. The least thing I know those used clothes came from aboard, somewhere like Europe or east Asia. Majority of them may be not going trough proper checking or smuggled items. This is what makes people here still seeing thrift market (that's how the business run) items are dangerous and contain biohazard thing, because it's a "trash from foreign place". As far as I know what thrift store do, probably just laundry it or even diplay it as it is.
