Not sure if this is the best place to post but I’ve seen some other discussion about this topic. I recently found out that my dad was being overpaid by social security and, as his dependent, I was as well up until I was 18. I am now 27 and social security is coming after myself, my sister, my mom, and my dad for each overpayment. My overpayment is around 20,000. I filed a waiver with social security, but I don’t think it will be waived. My sister recently heard back and hers wasn’t waived. My sister was told she would need to pay the amount back in 3 years. Her amount is significantly less than mine and I am wondering whether social security would except a longer time frame to repay it. If I do have to pay it back in three years it would be a huge hit to finances. Any insight would be great.
