Hey guys currently work for the gov and make $84k w/ 5% 401k match on the FERS (pension) system. My average raise is 5% every year salary caps at $125k. Pension will pay out $1M if I retire here and it is adjusted for inflation. Oh and slamming health benefits for life.
That being said $84k is underpaid. I have a commercial offer for $130k plus $5k-$10k bonus. It has a 8% 401k match and I assume would give a 3% yearly raise. Oh and the health benefits suck. This is a large corporation who laid off everyone 10 years ago and is now rebuilding.
By my math I could max my 401k (which I can’t afford to do now) plus pay $10k for health stuff and still take home more money. Is the pay difference worth the risk?
