I am 33 years old disabled and not working I had credit card debt from before I was work until now. I was wondering how long it takes for a credit card company to send my account to collections? I was unable to get the debt paid off before I became disabled. I relied on the credit cards and some settlement money and my disability benefits to survive. The settlement money only lasted for 3 years and now after talking with my parents, I plan to file bankruptcy and already talked with a lawyer about it. Did I do the right thing and file bankruptcy? because I definitely cannot afford to pay the creditors for the debt. The lawyer even worked out a payment plan with me so I am able to file bankruptcy.
