My husband and I spent the week scraping popcorn texture off the ceilings in a house we just bought. Now that the texture is gone, we need to take the next step to get it paint ready. Our goal is to have smooth ceilings painted with flat paint.I’ve read conflicting things about what to do in places where the drywall paper is exposed or ripped...Some say a primer like Kilz first to block the moisture, then a skim coat of mud to even everything out, followed by sanding, priming again, and painting. Others say go ahead with mud, sand, prime, paint in that order, even though the drywall paper is showing and ripped in some places. Obviously the less work for us the better, but we want it done right for a good final result. What’s next? Also accepting any helpful tips for this project moving forward! We’ve painted before, but never used mud aside from minor drywall repairs. via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2M2myxE
