In the spirit of r/Frugal, I thought some of you guys might appreciate some New Year's budgeting tips seeing as I've managed to save more than I thought possible these last 6 months.
Basically, there came a point where I knew my spending was so not optimal, but when I tried to pinpoint where the issues were I couldn't. There was a kind of fogginess in my mind. I can't state enough how much tracking every expense on a simple Excel spreadsheet has helped clear things up and compel me to do better with specific targets for each category. I think next month I'll tackle cutting down on Uber rides.
I've tried to put together a thorough article on how my system has evolved, which includes how I've kept motivated to stay with the habit: https://olipage.com/blog/benefits-of-budgeting/
Also, this is the spreadsheet I've developed. If you want to know how the bits and pieces of it work, go to the article above: http://olipage.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/Budget-Template.xlsx
Feedback/criticisms welcome! :)
