SHORT VERSION: Conflicted between staying at my current job or sacrificing 2/3 of my salary to spend more time with my new family & doing the kind of work I love.
LONG VERSION: I make well over 6 figures working as an advertising copywriter. It's a career I fell into, quite honestly, but one that it turns out, I'm pretty good at. I'm expecting our first child any day now, and I'm considering taking a part-time job at a small agency that would allow me to work remotely at the hours I choose. Only issue is I'd be cutting my salary by nearly 2/3. My husband isn't concerned about the finances, but I want to make sure we're not putting our new family in a potentially bad financial spot or jeopardizing retirement/college savings possibilities. Then again... I love the idea of being able to spend more time with my husband and child and having more time to do the writing that I truly care about (I write and publish short stories). In my heart, the answer is yes, take the part-time job to devote the majority of my time to the things I care about more. But I can't help but feeling like whoaaaaa that's a lot of money to give up. Anyone have any thoughts or words of encouragement? Has anyone been in this situation before? (Also, please know that I know how incredibly fortunate I am to have this be the thing that is currently weighing on me the most.)
