My fiance and I recently moved in together. I just finished university & I am struggling to get out of my overdraft. I have opened up a new current account where my salary will be paid and I can transfer a little each month into my overdraft account to pay it off. My outgoings are £325 a month rent & £300 for car which is on finance & includes insurance & diesel. The reason I'm struggling to get out of my overdraft is because I had a car accident. My car was written off and I couldn't afford to buy a 2nd hand one outright, so I have a 2nd hand car on finance.
My fiance and I eat a lot of meat and this means we spend a lot of money. We want to reduce it but its tricky. I'm an archaeologist and work outside. I don't often have access to a kettle or a microwave so I can't take things like soup unless I want it cold, which in the middle of British winter, I don't. We usually have chicken goujons in a wrap. It's nothing fancy, but we easily spend £15 a week on chicken for the both of us. My fiance works outside for his job too, with limited access to a microwave etc.
We've planned to reduce our evening meat consumption and have home made soups etc, but I was wondering if anyone had any general money saving tips when it comes to food. We do our best to plan meals ahead and only buy what we need, but I think we need to alter what we're eating so it's cheaper in the long run. If anyone has any suggestions for easy cheap lunches for work that don't involve much meat or a microwave I'd be very grateful.
Sorry if this post doesn't make sense or there's too much information, I'd just really like to be out of my overdraft! Thanks for the help!
