BACKGROUND: I recently moved to a new house-share (5 people total). The rent is cheap, and it's super close to my school/work. The only issue is it's the dead of winter and the house is drafty as all heck. The walls are paper thin and the windows are like a hundred years old (hyperbole, but not really). We have oil heat, with radiators in each room, so there's a tank out back and that's not factored into the monthly utilities. We keep the heat off most of the time, but our utilities are pretty high, I think because we use space heaters in our rooms.
QUESTION: I saw a post in here about window wrapping, and it got me thinking. Is there anything I can do for free/cheap to cut down on the space-heating? I'm thinking about card-boarding up the windows (even though I'd miss the natural light). It is a rental, so I can't make any major renovations, or anything like that, without all sorts of approval
Any advice on the subject is appreciated!
