Our electric bill last month was $321. Since it is winter I had my thermostat set to 60 degrees. We have a fairly big house, it’s old and poorly insulated. It used to have a wood stove in each main room, but due to insurance they had to be removed. (We have no control over this, we are renters.)
I noticed that my heat would cut on continuously. This was concerning to me, and so was my electric bill when I got the invoice.
I scored a king sized electric blanket dumpster diving last year, and brought it out. It still works great. I set my thermostat to 50 degrees, and now if we get cold we get under the blanket.
We also bought these weather proof window kits. They’re the plastic, shrink wrap kind. We weather proofed all of the old windows. I just got the invoice for our electric bill this month and it is only $163! I’m so happy.
