Hello, for some context I work as tech support for a publishing company, I do support for their applications and some of the services they run. When I was hired this, and fielding phone calls and a handful of other tasks were listed on what I would be handling.

Fast forward , its been about 8 months and my co worker left who handles EDI(Electronic Data Interchange). They ask me if I could fill the gap between him and the next person which would not be long, and assure me that all I have to do is hit a few buttons at the start of the day and thats most of his job.

He has left and it comes to light he had not been keeping up with anything for the past few months, there are a lot of fires to put out and I am working cases for this field from when I get there until I leave. I have also taken on his case load for his specialty as well as the calls that he was designated for. It has been a month and nobody has been hired.

I am also being asked to help setup automation integration for EDI that will make this person's position obsolete, they were quoted for about 36k to setup all the partners and they asked the automation company if they could have me trained and have me do half of them for a lower price. This process is going to take about 4 months to setup.

Before my coworker left I was also given a new position, split between two bosses where I would work for one for each half of the day, and they said they would discuss a pay raise for this position if my tardiness improved, I was late in October about 9 times, I know this is bad, the window being at latest to 10 minutes, since then I had 2 tardies in December, and 0 so far in January.

So with all of these extra responsibilities and new skillsets asked of me since I had come on I went to my boss with a list asking for compensation for picking up the position and for helping and learning a new skill that I had no experience in, and nobody else around me did either. I was told no because "we hired you for tech, and EDI is tech related, so its the same pay, we switch people around all the time, and we don't give pay increases everytime" Since I have been there I have no seen anyone moved positions, but I may have not seen it yet.

I wanted to know if I could reject working on the automation integration and the EDI, along with any of the tasks that the old coworker had been assigned to because I was denied compensation for it, and just maintain the tasks I was hired for.

tldr : I asked for a raise after having an ex coworker's responsibilities and a large company task were put on me that was not a part of why I was hired. Want to know if I can reject these new responsibilities and new skilled labor without the compensation.

Thank you for any advice.

Edit : thank you all. I figured this would be the case and it makes sense to use this as a shot at learning something new and adding it to my skillset and bringing that somewhere I believe values me where I believe I should. I very much appreciate the advice
