r/BIFL has a lot of appliances, work clothes, clock radios, and Red Wing boots, but I want to post about a definitely BIFL part of my life that might normally be dismissed by a lot of this sub's users - dress clothes. For example, this Southwick suit (apologies for the less-than-stellar photo) was most likely made in the 1980s.
With proper care, a well-made suit can last decades. My oldest suits are from the 1960s and are still in great shape. While some great old suits and jackets are still easily found used online, you can also buy quality suits new from companies like Southwick, which is still based in Haverhill, MA, or O'Connell's, based in Buffalo, NY.
Well-made suits, shirts and dress shoes (in shell cordovan or similar high grade leather) can be just as bulletproof as your old vacuum. While not necessarily cheap, the longevity of these clothes is definitely worth the price - to a guy who doesn't wear Carhartt or Red Wings, at least :)
