So, the other morning a man from the city who checks the water knocked on my door saying I have a leak somewhere and that my water bill will be very high. lol and behold in my basement the water powered backup sump pump was running. The float had been triggered, I pushed it down, it shut off and I went on with my day.
My water bill is billed every 3 months. I had a reading of 6 units (600 cu ft) at the end of November. I went to see the girlfriends family in Mexico for 3 weeks in december, and was back in January for two weeks before this guy knocked on my door. So I have no idea when this started.
I got a letter in the mail saying that this 3 month period will cost $8600 and there is already $2000 for the next billing period. I’m not even sure how this is possible. I went online, the reading on Jan 2 was 1296 units (1,296,000 cu ft) is this even possible in this amount of time? I’m planning on calling the city tomorrow morning.
Does anyone have some advice for me on this extraordinary bill? I’m hoping it’s a decimal error when they read the meter.
EDIT: I was also informed that I used another 293 units (293000 cu ft) of water between Jan 2 and Jan 16
EDIT 2: It says I used 1296 Units between Oct 1 and Jan 2.
For past reference, we used 6 units between Jul 10 and Oct 1
