I'm 29, a manager, and a somewhat professional lady. I've recently realized I have very little in the way of actual professional attire. My office environment is on the more casual side of business casual so I have a standard "uniform" for each season but I wouldn't call my style choices fashionable or even professional; just practical, and enough to get by.

I have a conference coming up (and possibly an interview for a job in a new more "professional" field) and when I'm considering what to wear I'm really frustrated with my options. I'm hoping you ladies can help me out with some frugal ideas. I'm pretty clueless.

Options I've considered so far: -Taking what I have to a tailor to see if I can get my clothes to fit me better and look more "expensive." Has anyone tried this? How did it go? How did you find a tailor for ladies suits? -Buying something on Poshmark or a thrift store and visiting a tailor. -Something new altogether if I can find a good deal.

What I have: -A pair of black calvin klein dress pants that are wide leg and a little big on me. I think the wide leg suits me but are they completely out of fashion? -A black blazer that looks decent on me but seems too short to wear with the pants. The proportions seem off. -A couple of nice looking shells that may be a little too boxy on my shape.

Considerations: -I live in the northeast US and it is winter. I am not a tights person, so it really has to be pants for this time of year even though I love a good skirt suit. -I am petite (5'2") but with somewhat broad shoulders. Petite sized pants are usually okay but blazers seem to fit me wrong no matter what. I just look so boxy and frumpy in every one I've tried on. Also, buttoned or unbuttoned? How is a suit even supposed to fit me? Can a tailor help with this? -Despite being petite I really can't wear heels above 2" (I have rheumatoid arthritis and I refuse to be uncomfortable). Also, my only shoes are pumps, and as I mentioned it's winter and I have pathetic feet that are always freezing. Any tips for a closed shoe or bootie that looks decent with dress pants?

I'm just struggling with finding something that looks "right," not frumpy, and makes me feel confident and grown up.

Any help appreciated. Thanks everyone.
