At 3:00 into GM Moves On, Should We Do The Same, Mark makes the comment "When you make disposable products, the people behind them become disposable as well." I never really thought it about buying it for life in those terms. In other words, when you buy it for life as a foundational principle, you're supporting the labor of everybody around you and their livelihoods in turn. 14,000 people are losing their jobs at GM because society has its head on backwards when it comes to value judgements placed on quality and craftsmanship. This isn't right. Never feel guilty again for spending that much more for a purposefully built item that meets your needs for a long time. It really matters in the end.
