I wanted to title this "New way to think about money," but that makes it look like some kind of scam.
Money is power. Think about this a little more deeply...
I was thinking the other day about what you can accomplish with a $10 bill. I could buy a quick meal at five guys, I could spend it on gasoline, I could gamble it away with lottery tickets, or I could give it to a kid at a lemonade stand and make their day, and get their attention long enough to teach them something they will never forget.
I realized that money is power, money is close to authority, money is ability. When you waste money, you are literally giving away your power and ability. Sure, I could spend an extra $50 to get the nicer set of headphones, but I'm also giving away $50 worth of power. When used wisely and creatively, $50 could be a set of gifts for a significant other or loved one that could set your relationship on a new and better path, for life. Or you can wear some nicer headphones.
The effect grows exponentially when you consider large purchases. You can save money and buy a car in cash, or be hasty and give $2500 of power to a faceless financial corporation. You can accomplish a lot more with that $2500 than they can - so don't give away your power. Use it wisely.
As Uncle Ben said, "With great power comes great responsibility."
