I'm going to be 35 next March. Just got off birth control. Was going to plan for pregnancy early next year. My employer has Aflac as a supplemental policy for hospital indemnity and short-term disability. We can get it either through my policy or my spouse's. However, it's not open enrollment until May/June and policy is active beginning July 1st. Although pregnancy is a qualifying event, you need to pay for the supplemental policy for a minimum of 10 months. So if I got pregnant and then signed up, it wouldn't kick in unless I had a SECOND child.

My spouse and I live in a super high COL area and we have to be conservative with our funds. While I would get short term disability through the state, having additional support would be a peace of mind given labor and delivery can cost a few grand. I am on my spouse's plan and we have a high deductible because we are both healthy. I haven't read through all the details, but I did read that our plan's hospital indemnity coverage is Low.

Thank you for your thoughts.
