TL;DR - The headline really says most of it, so apologies for the long post. I'm new here, so I was doing my best to abide by Rules 3 and 5.

Hi everyone,

I've had a fair bit of trouble keeping working earbuds and finding new ones to try has been tough given my constraints. I'm hoping this subreddit can help me locate something a little more durable this time around.

My requests:

  • Earbuds, not headphones. I'm somewhat flexible on this point so long as they're not too bulky, but I prefer earbuds partially because I use public transport and earbuds are considerably less likely to be heard by others.
  • Volume Control - Again, this is largely a public transport concern. It's just easier to adjust something on the cord than it is to reach into my pants pocket when I'm crammed into the window by a larger seat companion. This is also helpful on the rare occasion when I actually jog.
    • Note: This point is why I specified Android-Compatible (Samsung Galaxy A5), as there is some difference in the way the Apple device jacks work on this front which makes Apple-compatible volume control not work on Android.
  • Microphone - Standard, I know, but I use my cell phone as an actual phone more than a lot of people these days.

My use profile:

  • I'm not an audiophile by any stretch. These do not have to have a premium sound profile, but would prefer them not to sound like absolute trash.
  • My total round-trip commute is a little over an hour a day. I tend to listen to music or podcasts the entire time.
  • My cell is my primary work phone. I'm often in meetings for 3+ hours per day, in conference calls as my clients are primarily located in another city.
  • I tend to use my regular cell phone headphones as my regular use headphones for my computer at home. This greatly contributes to their quick demise, I know. I'm planning on doing that differently this time, but I'm including it here just as bonus information.

Budget: I'm flexible, but gun-shy.

Given my history of quickly breaking headphones, I'm hesitant to throw down $300 on top-of-the-line anything since I assume they won't last. I'm also not looking for some cheap $50 ones as I know you get what you pay for. Somewhere in the middle, with reasonable assurances, I suppose.

Thanks for any help you can provide. This has driven me nuts a couple times a year for several years now.
