I have an older home built in 1940 that has plaster and lath over solid brick exterior walls and a stone foundation. I'm looking to mount a 65" TV on a wall that is a partial interior and partial exterior wall (the first fourish feet of the wall back to a powder room with the remainder of the wall being exterior). Based on where I want to place the TV, I believe I have the option of either putting one set of screws into an interior wall stud with the other into brick/mortar or putting all fasteners into brick/mortar.A few questions about my project:-Will a stud or brick/mortar offer a stronger mounting point using the correct fastener?-Is it better to drill into brick given that it's a solid brick wall (so cracking won't matter much) or mortar? I've seen various sources going both ways. With the plaster and lath, is there even an easy way to tell what I'm going to drill into before it's too late?-Does the fastener vary based on whether it's hitting brick or mortar? Thanks all! via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2QS3tUs
