Long time lurker and also throwaway account because... shame. Honestly, i know there are plenty who are worse off than myself, but this is personally rock bottom for me. Not sure if this should be going to this sub but here goes:

A bit of back story. This happened in Toronto, Canada. A couple months out of university, I found a reasonably paying job earning around 42k + bonus per year, no savings in my bank account (literally $0) and about 50k in student debt (payments work out to $500 per month).

Considering the price of living downtown and my own interest in driving, I stupidly decided to lease a brand new car about a year ago. This plus insurance amounted to about $500 per month. Didn't really even consciously think about whether I could afford that and rent ($1700/mo) and food, gas student loans and phone bills... you get the idea.

Also have a (somewhat dependant) sister who lives with me and is in university whom I pay phone bills and food for. Not a very good addition to the mix eh. Let's just say I REALLY could not afford the car.

Long story short, missed a few bills for the car and others and got the car towed along with everything in it. And now I've pretty much hit rock bottom for myself.

Not really sure what to do to dig myself out of this hole.

TLDR: got a car, couldn't afford it, got towed.
