I've recommended this "frugal hobby" before. But I never did the math to find out if I really did save. Let's say you enjoy nice designer perfumes. They cost something like $100 for 100ml of eau de parfum, right?

I've spent the last few years developing my own recipe(s) for personal scents. Did the math this morning. The oils and carriers for some fairly fancy ingredients themselves for my favorite recipe comes to $14.50 (not including the non-consumables like spray bottle, eyedroppers, small funnels) for 150ml. A 90% SAVINGS. You can spend much less if you opt for the more cost-effective scents in your recipe.

Have I 100% duplicated Chanel No. 5 (Or whatever you like) exactly? No. I don't use things like ambergris, oud or orris. But all the basic ingredients can be bought at a place like eden botanicals online (watch out for pyramid scheme "reps" who sell essential oils, they're WAY overpriced for the quality, in my experience).

Here's a link to some instructions: edenbotanicals.com/natural-perfumery-basics.html

I'm not in any way associated with any supplier or reseller. I just know sometimes people ask me for more information, so I thought I'd share.
