During the 2nd half of this year my car has just been burning my emergency fund and i’m looking to swap it with some cheaper line of transportation. So far during this later half i have spent $1,400 on suspension and just recently got a new engine at about $2,000. Sadly the car is still buggy cus i think my mechanic is garbo (went a cheaper route to save about $750, but the car has been back once already and they tackled tension belts on for $125).
So at this point i’m looking to sell the car and go for a cheaper line of transportation. My current job is 6.5 miles from where i’m living and i’m thinking of a getting an electric bike. Anyone know a good reliable EBike thats under 1.5k? I would gladly go 2k for one thats faster than 20mph. I am open to other transportation options as well.
Concerning EBikes though i’m curious of others experiences with EBikes. From what i can calculate an EBike would save me about $200 a month of small maintenance/insurance/gas, around $550 if you add my vehicle repairs for the year. Is an Ebike worth it or should i just go for a new vehicle? How would i go about preventing theft of an EBike? Costs to maintain an E bike? Is the Geo Orbital any good (E Wheel from kickstarter)?
Otherwise i don’t go out much and figure i could Uber for distant events if i’m not tagging along with friends. So i may uber once every 2 months at most.
