There was a post here asking about the most frugal decision you've ever made a few days ago and I've been thinking about this ever since. I bought a waxing kit (bundle of melting pot, 4 packs of cheap hard wax beans, a few sticks) in July and it has saved me sooo much money in the 23 weeks since I've bought the kit, here's the breakdown:

$25 for the starter kit, $2 for an extra pack of popsicle sticks

After a few trial and error sessions with my wax warmer, I've gotten into a rhythm of

1 underarm wax per week (23) - salon cost $20*23 weeks = $460 in savings

1 brazilian wax every other week (~11) - salon cost $60*11 weeks = $660 in savings

Total = $1120 - $27 in materials = $1093 saved (!!!)

So disclaimer, I do have a pretty high pain tolerance and it took me a few tries and some patience to not burn myself, so home waxing is not for the faint of heart (yes, please read that as a challenge haha). Also, you do tend to create a bit of a mess waxing at home, but I think over $1k in savings is well worth it! I didn't even factor in the amount I've saved on razors and shaving cream, since I've also stopped shaving altogether.

The prices are based on what I tended to pay at a salon. I'm not sure how representative they are of the salons around everyone else but this is what I usually paid for service and tip. Obviously I don't think I would have an underarm wax every week if I weren't doing it myself since that's not very frugal, but treating myself to a more frequent wax is a bonus :)

I'm no esthetician so don't take my waxing schedule as gospel, but watch a few youtube videos and consider doing it at home. Have fun saving money!

Edit: and Gentlemen, of course ;)
