Sorry if this is the wrong sub. I inherited a kitchenaid mixer some time ago. No idea how old it is, but judging from the plug it was probably made in the early 90s at the latest (EDIT: from further research it might be older than what I thought, at least on googling, it was produced by Hobart, model number K5-A, which could make it as old as the 60s and probably purchased no later than mid-80s(?)). Recently it's been a little louder than normal and there's a faint burning smell (it's the same smell you get after you run the vacuum cleaner, I don't know what to call this smell; it's not exactly burning, but don't know how else to describe it...). Maybe there's a fan inside it that's close to dying?

I was just curious if anyone else has encountered a problem like this and if so if it's "normal" or if I should try to get it repaired or just keep using it or?

Slightly complicating matters is that I haven't used it for like 6 months (just fired it up today) and the last time I used it, I was a heavy smoker, so it might have had at least the smell problem back then and I just didn't notice.

At any rate, appealing to you all for your collective wisdom. I figured this is a good place since this was already "bought for life" and I'm trying to make it last through another. I'm happy to provide whatever other info would be helpful for diagnosing, sorry that this post isn't more informative/helpful...
