So lately I have been eating out more than I used too. I have come to the realization the amount of time/money it takes to eat out and grab a meal is less than the amount of time/money needed to make a meal at home. My time is worth 25 per hour on average (I am a server). Now Let's say I am making a single dinner at home for a night and that I don't premake my dinner for the week because I want variety and freshness. So let's say dinner is 1/2 lb of chicken @ 1.99/lb and 2 cups of cooked rice and veggies. Let's say the total cost of raw ingredients is 2$ and now let's say it takes me 20 mins to cook and 20 minutes to clean. You can start to see how time is really the issue here. Yeah, I spent $2 on my dinner, but it took 40 minutes of involvement. 40 minutes at my job can get me $17. So really, I'm "spending" 19 dollars on my home meal if you include the time involved, when I would spend around $10 for just getting something at my work, plus it is easier to just get something. What are everyone's thoughts on this? I am very interested. Have you experienced anything similar?
