I'm 32 and I'm starting to really get sick of the holiday tradition of spending a shit ton of money on everybody. Of course I loved it as a kid, but at this point I wouldn't care if no gifts were exchanged.
I have a brother, a sister, a mom, a dad, a girlfriend, and her daughter. I'm basically expected (mostly by my bro and sis) to spend at least $100 on everybody. I've already agreed to a group gift for my dad and sister in which I have to chip in $100 for each gift. That's honestly too much money and I'm starting to resent the expectation.
But this is how we've been doing it all of our adult lives. I'm just sick of basically having to spend a week's pay so we can buy each other shit. I don't really know how to break this tradition without being the member of the family that's the scrooge.
Christmas used to be one of my favorite times of year. Now I just kind of hate it.
