I need to make a new pickguard for an electric guitar. The cheapest/easiest way seems like it's probably to buy a small sheet of acrylic. I don't have a lot of tools, and really don't want to buy more. What I've got is stuff for working with wood. So electric and hand jigsaws. Various sandpapers. A power drill, with bits for wood and masonry. Some files for wood.Making a pickguard involves cutting a fairly complex shape out of the acrylic, including some holes. Here's what one looks like: https://ift.tt/2RGl2DF about 300mm long. I'll be using 2mm transparent acrylic. Are my wood working tools okay to use on the plastic? I'm thinking of using a hand jigsaw with a blade intended for metal (though I also have blades intended for wood), to cut the outline. Then the wood drill bits and the saw to cut the openings. Then wood files/sandpaper to smooth off the edges. A pristine finish is not required. Just enough so that I'm not constantly lacerating my wrist when I play. There's no joining or gluing or whatever required.Am I going to a) wreck my tools, b) not even manage to get the job done, c) do an adequate job?Bonus question: is there a material out there I should be using instead of acrylic?p.s: absolute micron precision on the cut is not required. If it's out by a mm or two here and there, it'll still function fine. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2SA8gXf
