My great aunt is 95 and is recovering from a fall in the hospital. Her mind is still very sharp, but she’s very weak so the hospital won’t release her to live with her son. She needs to move into assisted living but money is an issue. We’ve shopped around and ~$4000/month is the cheapest we can find. Her husband served in WW2 so she can get about a $1200/month discount. Even with the discount, she doesn’t have enough saved to be able to pay for it longer than a year. From what we understand, Medicaid doesn’t kick in until she’s lived in the assisted living home for two years. We aren’t sure what we can do for her if she lives longer than a year to continue to pay for her living situation. We’re in southwest Ohio, any advice is appreciated.
