I AM FREE OF MY STUDENT LOANS TODAY.
I went to a state school in CA, and I wasn't eligible for financial aid. Had to take out 6 loans and it took me 4 years to pay them off. Personal finance helped me strategize how to get things done. I paid off the biggest 15 k loan first and then pay off the smaller amount for that month. It hurt to pay everything in full, and drop that kind of cash. Also to be fair, I still live with my parents, but I am grateful for the opportunity to have a clean slate. I think if you are paying rent this might take you up to five or maybe six years. But it is possible, I stopped buying useless shit, started drinking the free coffee at work instead of starbucks, I became so money conscious that I even started returning items I felt I needed but really didn't. It is so hard to be the finance police on yourself.
Unfortunately, it is time to replace my car. I will keep pushing it till it eventually dies on me, so that I can save up at least 5k for a downpayment on a reliable car with decent gas mileage, and I am even considering going hybrid or full electric.
Anyways I thought to share my small win of finally paying off 35k of student debt that made me so depressed for so long. I know there are far worse debts out there, but hopefully we can all be free of our debts!
