My family is considering adding a dog to our numbers in the coming year. For those of you who enjoy pet ownership but also are of the frugal persuasion, how have you minimized the costs of dog ownership?
ETA: I'm not suggesting that dog ownership is frugal, but if one elects to do it, I'm wondering if this group has any suggestions on how they save money where reasonable.
We would of course spay/neuter and address all of the dog's ongoing health care, and provide high quality food. The dog would be a member of the family.
