I just bought a 100% cashmere coat for $16 dollars. I looked up the label and I’m fairly certain it’s from the 50’s or maybe even earlier. Only problem is it’s not in the best condition. The actual cashmere fabric is fine, no major wear and it actually feels pretty substantial. However the lining on the inside is coming away from the coat and one of the seams is splitting. I’m not worried about those issues because they seem fixable with some thread. I was thinking of getting it dry cleaned but I don’t want to risk causing more damage. I read somewhere clothing older than 50 years old should just not be cleaned but I don’t know if that holds for coats?
