This really sucks but two weeks ago I got a letter in the mail from a collection company saying I owed about $600 on a cable/internet bill from the beginning of this year. Problem is I’ve never had that company for anything in my life, I even checked and I can’t get service here through the company where I live (I’ve lived in the same place for the last 4 years). When I called the cable company they referred me to the collection company. When I called the collection company, they told me to just pay the bill or they would “destroy my credit”. Even after telling them I literally couldn’t have gotten service and I’ve never known anyone who lives at the service address (3 states away), they still said they’d destroy my credit if I didn’t at least pay them 80% of the bill. What can I do?
