Hey all! We are in the process of getting our master bathroom remodeled, and I think we blew our load too early. We found a company we like to fully redo the bath and shower, but used up most of our budget. As such, I have a few questions as I'm planning to do the rest myself for the most part:1) There is a "decorative hole" in the wall between the bathroom and bedroom. I guess in the 90's that was great but we hate it. I got a quote to fill it (it's about 7 feet wide and 3.5 feet tall at the highest peak, on a vaulted ceiling). 790 to frame, hang, and finish, 430 to finish. As I don't have the drywall tools I need for finishing and I don't think I can do a good enough job, I think we may pay the 430 and I'll frame and hang myself as that doesn't sound too bad. Does that seems like a decent price? The wall is a plumbing wall on one side so its 2/3 2x4 framing 1/3 2x6, so there is an extra jut out that you have to deal with, and I don't trust myself at all with the joint between the wall and ceiling.2) The vanity now is solid oak with an off white counter top. We're going white, and I think we plan to just paint the vanity with Rustoleum's cabinet transformation kit. Is there anything that can be done to a marble countertop that can kind of "whiten" it? The off white isn't horrible, but if we could put some sort of repolish on it that makes it whiter that would be amazing and save us a lot in the not so slim chance it drives my wife crazy and I have to replace the counter top.3) If you're doing a floating floor, such as Home Depot's lifeproof series, do you recommend any underlayment? On the website it says no, but I've seen some people say to put felt down so it is more comfortable. I installed some in the basement and don't mind it, but might as well ask while I'm replacing. Thanks! via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2ULsqPL
