Hi all! Our washing machine decided to crap out last night for the last time that it isn't worth fixing anymore. Conveniently, I found out that it's a Samsung model that just has a myriad of problems, and was left to me in the house so I just kept fixing it over time. Now it's gotten down to either the control board is busted since it refuses to start its cycle, the motor has gone bad since it refuses to spin, or the water pump has finally blown since it's also no longer draining. All of these replacement parts are $200 or more, and I'd rather just bite the bullet for something new so that I don't have to fix it every month. I've had the washer for over 3 years now anyway, which from looking online is just long over its lifespan.

So I was wondering what the options were for replacing a washer in case I missed any.

I've checked the Facebook Marketplace, along with Craiglist in my area, and anything that's in my price range ($125 cause I'm broke) either is torn to shreds, has it's own broken parts, or has the equivalent of aids for appliances. I also have a bad history with using used washing machines where even after a deep clean, my clothes would always still come out smelling like mildew. I was almost fired at a previous job for that so I'm pushing my trust with used appliances.

I can't borrow money from anyone in the family either to act as a loan so that option is out as well.

I tried to sign up for a Best Buy and Home Depot credit card, but my credit was royally screwed last year and the request for those was denied real quick.

I've checked on portable washing machines like the Giantex 17lbs one, and from what I've read, I wouldn't mind it as an option. Whether that's to swap over to it entirely as a washer or just as a backup while I save up for a conventional. I liked the idea of these because they use less water and electricity, and lowering bills by even some degree is always nice. I just worry about how much heavy duty work they can do since I have pups and half of the time do construction runs, along with bed sheets, comforters, and blankets.

One of my coworkers said they have an extra washer they might be getting rid of, but I haven't heard anything back about it and it's likely it won't follow through.

I have considered a rent-to-buy option as well, but most of the prices I'm finding are for a set a washer and dryers. The overall price of doing that too would be almost double of what it would be to outright buy a washer, but I'm really considering it for helping rebuild my credit. Between me and my fiance's income, we should be able to handle monthly payments until paid in full, but just trying to finance anything is difficult at the moment.

Are there any other options I might have missed, or is there any insight you guys have on this? I've tried looking up reviews for both the portable washer and for the rent-to-buy situation, but on the portable I'm only finding reviews for apartment living and not full home status, or a comparison to a conventional washer. And on the rent-to-buy, it's mainly just advertisements or people who lease their appliances to get new ones later on, and I'd rather not do that and be paying a monthly payment for a stupid long time on a washer when those payments could be put towards owning.

Any help is appreciated, and thank you before hand! I'm sorry if this isn't the right sub, but I was thinking alongside being frugal so yeah...
