My Thermapen Classic started experiencing issues a few months before the 2-year warranty ran, and now a few months later it's all but unusable. It only turns on in certain positions when I apply sideways pressure to the probe, and spontaneously turns off for no reason while it's being used. I'm not the only one who has experienced this problem:

Long story short, Thermoworks customer service chose not to honor their warranty even though it was a known issue that had begun within the warranty period. Their best offer was to repair the item for $30, or a 30% discount off of a new $100 MK4.

Well, the Lavatools Javelin Pro Duo seems like a comparable product that gets good reviews and it's pretty easy to find a discount code taking their price down to $40, so that's a no brainer from my POV. Not sure why Thermoworks thinks I would pay $10 less than that for a repair of an outdated product. We all know they would just send me a refurb anyway. Thanks but no thanks, I'll take a new device from their competitor. I already spent $80 on the classic, and for that price it should still be working.

I've owned the Javelin for a few weeks now, and I'm loving it! It seems at least as good as my old Thermapen, and in fact when I've been able to compare the two (when I can get the Thermapen to stay on), the Javelin is faster and more accurate. At a lower price point and a longer warranty, I'll be recommending them from now on.

Thermoworks is not the only game in town anymore, they should quit acting like it if they want to keep their customers.
