Hi everyone!

I wanted to share a comprehensive review of a sturdy sofa I just bought. I am not being compensated for this, I just wanted to share some good info. Mods, feel free to advise if this kind of post is not allowed. There are no reviews out yet so hopefully this will be useful.

Floyd Sofa: 9/10 review

Overview: Designed and also manufactured in Detroit. The frame is made of all-natural, Top Grade birch plywood. It's TSCA Title VI and CARB-2 certified & tested for durability. The legs are cold-rolled and powder-coated US steel. It also features stain-resistant fabric and high density foam. Its minimalistic design consists of six pillows, six legs, and four panels.

Legs: Sturdy steel, sleek and stylish. They are really nice!

Panels: Heavy and solid wood. No compromise made here, such as with particle board construction (most sofas on the market). I have the upholstered version and like the craftsmanship.

Fabric: I ordered swatches before I bought the sofa. All four colors are nice and versatile. I’m very happy with the Ocean Dive variant. It has a premium look and feel on the sofa, exceeding my expectations. Seems very durable. Stellar stitching, no loose threads. The only con is that there is a pretty distinct chemical smell for the first few days.

Foam: The seat pillows are good- an even balance of firm and soft. There is a layer of high density foam and a layer of soft foam. The pillows seem like they will hold up nicely as they are a bit on the heavier side. A small complaint, but the crevices between the pillows mean that lying on my back feels a bit off, but it’s not that bad. It’s definitely more comfortable to lie on my side. I slept on the sofa the other night, and woke up in the morning with less back pain as compared to my cheap mattress.

The back pillows need denser foam. Don’t get me wrong- they’re filled well, but the foam is plush. It might not be an issue for you if you weigh under 150lbs. I can grab the top of the pillow and squeeze to the point where there’s less than an inch between my thumb and forefinger. Another downside of the foam being this malleable is that the pillows lose their shape and get wrinkly. I don’t really mind the lived-in look, but I prefer to fluff the pillows back to shape.

Length: Perfect for someone up to 6 feet tall to fully lie down, including an extra throw pillow. 87” is definitely the sweet spot for a sofa.

Depth: It has just enough room for one person to lie down comfortably. Like most sofas, it’s too tight for two people, but it’s very easy to move the back pillows on the floor. Technically, the depth can be adjusted by ~2 inches. By default, I have the pillows pushed back as far as possible, wedged under the back panel (better for sitting up). If I want more space while lying down, I can pull the cushions out over the edge of the frame slightly. This slight degree of modularity is definitely helpful.

Height: I would have preferred the back cushions to be 2-3 inches higher. Depending on how I sit, I can feel the back panel on my back/shoulders and have to readjust my posture. For the most part, this is caused because of how soft the foam is in the back pillows. The side pillows have a more generous height over the top of the side panels- if the back pillows had the same ratio it would be better.

Comfort: I give it a solid 7/10. It’s more of a sink in, cross a leg or two on the seat, kind of sofa. I personally would have liked more supportive back cushions, as I like to sit more upright and ergonomically. I like how you can use the side pillows as-is and comfortably when lying down. I’ve found that using an extra throw pillow makes a big difference when sitting.

Design: It appears that the design is inspired from elements of iconic Herman Miller and Danish modern sofas, while refreshing it with a modern American twist. I love the “less is more” ethos. I imagine this sofa could mix with most styles of decor. It seems best suited for a family, due to the durability and cozy factor.

Price: Above reasonable, considering the quality of materials and smart design.

Assembly: It took an hour, mainly because it was difficult to install a few pegs/screws (it took a lot of tension). Simple otherwise.

Shipping: Preordered 10/18, and estimated delivery by 11/16. Arrived on 11/26 due to a minor delay, something to do with last minute quality checks or other logistics. Was able to pick my preferred delivery date, and chose the earliest possible one of course. Delivery was slated for 5-9PM, however I was contacted by the delivery guy at around noon- and they were already outside without any notice. I was glad I didn’t have to wait all day for them to show up since I was looking forward to the sofa so much. This would have been inconvenient if I was at work or didn’t have a lobby in my apartment building. The delivery guys were friendly, and pretty fast at getting the four boxes to my door. I was able to get the boxes inside my apartment by myself easily, and everything was packaged very well. It would be a rare situation if you weren’t able to get the largest box into your door- even in compact city apartments with tight hallways. I’m sure it would definitely fit in any elevator as well. I used a box-cutter to break down all four boxes into a solid 3x3 foot stack for recycling.

Hope this helped or was interesting! Thanks for reading my review.
