Hi all,
About 9 years ago my aunt and I opened a joint credit card. It was to help teach me about credit and whatnot....I didn't really learn too well. I've been carrying a balance on it for a while. I recently picked up a second job to help pay it off, but then I noticed on my credit report that it's been "closed by consumer."
I haven't spoken with my aunt in a few years now....we aren't exactly angry with each other, we just kind of drifted apart due to me spending so much time on my studies. I imagine she closed it because she was sick of it affecting her credit, though I'm not sure if she realized how badly it's affecting my credit by lowering my average age of accounts and increasing my utilization by a lot. Not to mention, now I don't have any emergency credit.
So what should I do? Should I attempt to reopen it? Transfer my balance or something? Or is it safe to just leave it closed since my credit is already poor as it is? It's been closed since May, I'm not sure how I didn't realize it happened till now. My credit is pretty poor at this time so I doubt I'll be able to transfer it, at least till I get some things paid off in the next few months.
Thanks all.
