I want to explain the situation, then speak to my plans and ask for your thoughts. I've tried searching for answers which has got me a lot of info I include in my plan, but I have some unanswered questions. So basically there's an inset above the fireplace. I figured it'd be a good spot to hang the TV, and got a mount meant for that which can drop the TV down a bit. We then realized thatthere aren't any studs in the mounting spotthe mount backing would cover the power outletThe mount backing might cover a "wire conduit" where wires are fed loosey goosey through a metal rectanglethe piece of horizontal wood that is there is too high to work with the mount.I'm using an articulating mount to fix the "too high" mounting a TV above a fireplace issue.I don't plan to swing the TV up and down all the time, but I don't want it to rip out from the wall if our friends five year old touches it or whateverThe TV is like 70lbMy plan is the following:Buy a 1/2" sheet of plywood, cut to sizeCut out holes for the outlets using a drill then a reciprocating sawMount the plywood to any wood in reachUse toggle bolts rated to 90lb to secure that to drywall as wellMount the TV normally (or do I also need toggle bolts for this?)My questions areMore modern TVs are like 35lb. Would changing the TV make a needed impact? The TV mount itself has screw to use, should I continue using these or do they also need to be anchor bolts? The anchor bolts I've found aren't nearly as thick as the mounting screws that came with the stand, but maybe that can be accounted for with washers or....?Any other methods I should use instead? via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2zsEw6I
