In August of this year I had a surprise surgery. This of course led to some rather expensive bills. At the time I had just ended a couple months of unemployment so I had no insurance and my job security was somewhat tenuous. I was able to get a drastically reduced bill from the hospital because of my situation. Unfortunately I was broke and still owed several thousand dollars. I was able to set up a payment plan with the surgeon and pay off some of the lab fees within the next couple months. I had a job but work was still not consistent so I waited. Probably not the best decision but it's what I could do at the time.

On the 13th of this month I finally went into the billing department of the hospital, set up a payment plan, and made my first payment. Everything seemed fine at the time. Saturday I received a letter from a collection agency saying I owed them and if I wanted to dispute the debt I had to respond within 30 days.

At this point I'm not really sure what to do. Should I respond to the letter and say I've already set up a plan with the hospital? Should I ask the hospital about this?
