I found an article on a site called The Money Mix where they surveyed a bunch of people about financial independence and early retirement, including some of the big name bloggers and a few early retirees.
The main topics were financial independence numbers, maximum age for early retirement, and how much you can work and still be retired. Lots of talk about Suze Orman's comments about FIRE and the response of the personal finance community, too.

What really jumped out to me was almost 10% of the people who took the survey thought they would be financially independent with less than $250k.
I’ve got a family, so that’s not realistic for me. But it made me think back to my single days, and I’m not sure I could have coasted it out on $250k then, either.
What do you think? How long could you live on $250k?
