I've done a few jobs around the house before, paver patios, tile floors, building/hanging shelves, building aquarium stands... I've got most of the tools needed for the job, minus the special blades/bits to cut the stone.I want to remodel the kitchen next and my layout is pretty straightforward. I currently have an L shaped counter with a single 90 degree joint, a stove cooktop insert and an under-mount sink. I have a kitchen island that is a rectangle.By my measurements I would need three slabs of granite (which is already pretty expensive). My circular saw with the right blade could trim the ends to fit and a grinder or similar could help out on the interior cutouts. The cooktop hole would be hidden by the cooktop so the only real make it or break it would be the sink, which is my big worry. I don't have anything to smooth out that visible interior edge. From the videos I've watched, the front edge of the counter is rounded over with a beefy router bit and I only want a tiny round over anyhow so that should go smoothly. If I take my time and run water over the cuts, how likely am I to snap $2000 in half? All the cutting has me worried that a big chunk of granite will split off or the counter will crack in half carrying it into the house after cutting. I've read some articles that say its doable but challenging, others say never try it. via /r/DIY https://ift.tt/2qMSkVI
