Last weekend, my housemate's friend's brother crashed at our apartment for a night, this was the first time I'd met him. I left for Thanksgiving and showed up about an hour ago and this guy was still here! My housemate said "he moved in, but he's only 17 so he doesn't have to be on the lease" I was so shocked that I was just like "oh, okay" and I haven't said anything to her since.
I'm a university student, and I've been living here since August. I didn't apply for the lease until recently and still haven't signed it, but spent all my money on the deposit and the first and last month's rent. I can't leave and have no place to go.
I definitely want to have a talk with my housemate; she's a pretty dominant person and can be pushy and controlling. I'm more reserved and easygoing, and non-confrontational. I feel like whatever I say, she'll shut me down or steamroll me.
I'm especially worried about the finances. I'm not sure if this guy is paying rent or not, but I only work part time and it's the best I can do to afford the $400 a month in rent and bills, I can't save up for a new place anytime soon.
