Hello friends. Anyone here into brewing their own alcohol? I started experimenting with wine making this year. I'm not a heavy drinker by any means but I do enjoy wine (red in particular) and soon as someone in my allotment group suggested making blackberry wine, I thought it'd be fun (and save me some money) to give it a shot.
It was a hot summer here in England, so the blackberry bushes fruited earlier than normal (August). There's an abundance of these around the land where the allotments are, so once I got tired of making jam, I started on the wine. I followed the recipe and process from this article.
It turned out ok: not great, but OK. I don't think I left it nearly long enough, I was too excited to try it! As with all things simple living, patience is key :)
Now I've moved on to apple wine - again, the fruit matured earlier than expected and last month I collected about 6kg of windfalls, from which I've made two 5l demijohns of wine must, enough for 10-12 bottles. I've been more careful with the brewing process this time, and more patient, so I'm hoping things turn out well enough to make the wine good enough to give away as Christmas presents. A few blog posts about my adventures here, here, and here but just wondering if anyone else is into this too? It's very rewarding, a great way to connect with nature, and learn some new things :) Would be interested to share ideas and experiences.
