Wind storm on Saturday here in the Northeast US. Knocked a tree across the line leading to my house and ripped the mast and power meter off the side of it. Little bit of damage to the roof and siding and obviously the electrical issue. Local reputable electric company came out within an hour and had me back up and running within 2 hours or so.

Homeowners insurance should cover everything (I hope) but in the meantime I needed to pay the electricians. I'd been taking cash out every time I go to the grocery store so I had about $2k in my dresser and the total was $1780. Since I had cash he knocked $100 off and said he'd do a invoice for insurance that would help me with the deductible.

Alot less stressful when something like this happens and I didn't have to use my bank account (where my real emergency fund is) to pay for it.

Cash talks.
