And by disposable income I mean everything that it’s not bills or doesn’t need to be purchased (like groceries). I have only started frugal living in the past 6 months – I do feel bad about not having started it sooner, although I am only 22 and I know most people only start it later in life if they start at all. The thing is, I got married to a minimalist guy. Before me he didn’t have any decorations in the house at all, never bought anything he didn’t absolutely need and was able to save every single cent of his disposable income. To him, whenever we buy something we don’t need that means that we are spending like crazy people. I do try harder every day, but I do like spending money every now and then, specially on plants and scented candles. We have been saving $1600 every month and we will be rising that number soon once we add my income to it (right now I’m unfortunately not allowed to legally work which sucks). So I’m here to ask if even the most frugal person here sometimes buys something they like or if my husband’s way is supposed to be the right way of being frugal? - he comes from a family that is so frugal his mother wanted me to buy a wedding dress that I could wear in other occasions too and thought I didn’t need to buy new shoes just because I was getting married . Edit: we are debt free so it’s not like I am being irresponsible when I buy something we don’t absolutely need
