I cancelled my gym membership last month after a direct debit payment. The cancellation email told me not to cancel the direct debit as I have to give 30 days notice on cancellation, meaning I would have to pay another monthly payment. I subsequently cancelled my direct debit anyway thinking nothing more would come of it.

They have since sent me a message saying that a £25 administration fee would be charged to my account if I didn't reply by a certain date and reinstate the direct debit. That date has passed and yet there has been no charge, however they have sent me another email stating that a further £25 charge will be incurred if I don't reply to them by another date. I checked the original contract when I signed up and it does state a 30 day notice period is required on cancellation and a charge may be incurred if this is not met.

I have not replied to any messages or signified that I have received any communications. Can they actually charge me? Can I just reinstate the direct debit before the date? Make the final payment and not get charged the administration fee?
