Hey everyone!

I'm hoping some here might be able to help me navigate this difficult decision. Originally when planning for a career, I was thinking of my interests, but also a lot about money and prestige. Now that I'm aiming for a simple life, one that is about enjoying the moment and minimizing stress (ideally having more time to spend with loved ones and in nature), I've changed my approach to career searching. My goal in life is essentially to appreciate it for what it is instead of striving constantly for something just around the corner that will "make" me happy. I want to learn to be contented here and now, grateful for what I have, without losing the ability to grow and take action when necessary.

Growing up, I was taught to seek prestige in a career, primarily because I was always revered as a gifted kid. My family was really excited about my intelligence and thought I'd grow up to be a doctor or something "important" in their minds. Now, I'm not saying I'm against a career like this, only that I'm more interested in enjoying my life (and doing what I can to help others) than striving to be perceived as impressive.

So, as far as my skills, interests, and personality go:

  • Great with kids, communicating, and customer service
  • Introvert, intuitive
  • Willing and able to go to college
  • Enjoy reading and researching
  • Want to do something meaningful that takes advantage of my intellect
  • Love cozy environments
  • Value helping the poor and needy
  • Interested in psychology, philosophy, and sociology
  • Enjoy singing and writing
  • Enjoy being outdoors (except for in extreme weather)
  • Good at communicating and sympathizing with others
  • Academically inclined and an over-achiever
  • Don't prefer tech-oriented things (unless that means browsing the internet or playing video games......)
